Google, Fullers, and the Confederation of British Industry Conference | Behind The Scenes

My good friend and colleague, Josh Huculiak recently collaborated on a large business conference here in London. I took the tube to Charring Cross, one of my favourites because of the quintessential London you experience exiting the station. As you walk up the old staircase to Trafalgar square, your greeted by dozens of passing London double decker busses, the huge square, famous try-arches which lead to Buckingham palace and the enormous front of the National Gallery. Upon entering the venue which was a minute walk from the event and hailed as 'the most Central Venue in all of London' I was greeted by marble, stone, great catering, my custom name tag and then Josh with a few cameras. This venue, 8 Northumberland, was spectacular. After taking a few levels under ground, you are greeted by an enormous room with media cut outs along the sides and craftsmanship on the ceilings enough to make the dozens of chandeliers even jealous.

The event, which was for the CBI (Confederation of British Industry) was a full day examining the future of change in the industry and how to hit that head on. Their impressive group of top clientele each gave speeches, namely, Google, Fullers pubs and Avery Insurance, which have been around since 1899. The speech that really had everyone on their feet was none other than Google’s. Two men from the company had one of the top intriguing and thought provoking presentations you'd ever see. They began speaking about how we communicate and furthermore how the world has changed from technology. Continuing in on the fact that technology is not on a regular growth curve, but instead, an exponential one. One show stealer was when they talked about how brands need to keep re-evolving and stay fresh. An example used was how in the next few years we will go from the brain power of a mouse AI on a single chip, to a humans, to the entire population... yes, the entire population of the worlds thought process, on ONE chip. This led to them telling how many of us won't be needed for jobs and how we will all need to think of ways to sustain our lifestyles in different ways.

To all of this, I say, bring it on! Change is what humans do best. I recently changed my entire life, and I believe when change is positive and in the right direction it’s not scary at all like many who don't are led to believe, it’s exciting! Change keeps you innovating and keeps you growing. Human beings are the most adaptive animals on the planet. Our entire lives change at many pivotal moments, some, in an instant. Say meeting someone at a bar you might travel with, or a potential mate, or a friend who you end up meeting who in turn changes the direction of your life. Many small instances lead to bigger things. One change now effects who you meet tomorrow, which might change the way you think about something the next week, where you work the next year, thus changing the outcome of your family in ten years! Its all, exponential. We are exponential, just like technology. At least, thats what I took home from the conference.

All in all, what an evening. Filming this event with a 3-camera setup and meeting the young and incredible minds at all these leading companies was a refresh. I had a wonderful day and will leave you here with a few photos from the event and BSI's incredible view from their office. I also wanted to thank Fullers for treating us all to one of their premiere pubs on Trafalgar Square after the event.

This is why I love what I do, I can come into a company and learn so much about a slightly different way of life than my own, meet people with real ideas, and fulfill my passion, Film. London, this is going to be an exciting and rewarding season. Here is to the change we all are capable of…
